Whether you need dog day care while you work or boarding while you are away, Epping has plenty of choice, from large day care centres and kennels to smaller home-based carers. The right one depends on your dog and on how you want them looked after.
We have looked after Epping dogs since 2005 from our family home in Waltham Abbey, and we collect and drop off in Epping every day. Here is what we would look for.
Seven Things to Check
1. Is it licensed by the council?
Anyone offering dog day care or boarding in Epping or Waltham Abbey needs a licence from Epping Forest District Council, rated from 1 to 5 stars. Ask to see it. We hold a 5 star licence (LN/00004591).
2. Where will your dog actually spend the day?
Ask how much secure outdoor space there is and how high the fencing is. Our dogs spend the day in a two acre field fenced 5 to 6 feet high, with climbing frames, tyre trails and ball games.
3. How many dogs, and what size?
Smaller groups of similar sized dogs are calmer and safer. We only take small to medium dogs, up to around Border Collie size.
4. Is there somewhere quiet to rest?
Dogs need downtime as well as play. Ours can go into the dog room, our old drawing room, whenever they want a rest.
5. Do they collect from Epping?
Collection saves you a daily drive. For day care we pick up from homes in Epping before 10am and bring dogs back after 4pm, included in the £35 day rate. Boarding at £50 per 24 hours includes pick up and drop off too.
6. Kennel or home boarding?
If you are going away, ask where your dog will sleep. With us, boarding dogs stay in our family home, not a kennel, and spend the evening relaxing with the family.
7. Can you visit first?
A good day care will always let you look round and meet the people looking after your dog. All our visits are by appointment.
